For the creation of the Buccaneers I relied on both fact and fiction, true findings and fantasy. Here is a listing of various films, books, and sites that I found helpful or simply interesting.

Movies

Of course, Errol Flynn and his pirate films were some of my greatest inspirations, but here is a listing of many different films that helped to inform my ideas of pirates and buccaneers in ways both realistic and ridiculous. Most of this is just fun, but since MUSHing is also about fun, I see no harm in turning to movies for ideas and inspiration.

Against All Flags

Captain Blood- Errol Flynn plays physician turned pirate when he is unfairly accused and imprisoned for tending to a wounded rebel. One of the all time best and classic pirate flicks, and Flynn's earliest leading role.

Cutthroat Island- In many ways a terrible, cheesy little film, but I enjoyed it's flamboyant stunts and vicious piratical in-fighting. Always nice to see a tough female pirate (Geena Davis) kicking some butt and bashing some heads.

The Master of Ballantrae- Errol Flynn plays a Scottish laird who loses his lordship during times of war and turns to piracy in order to survive and return to his home and the woman he loves. A great later Flynn film and a heavy influence on Captain Demetrius and First Officer Burke of the Amarada.

Books

Treasure Island- Written by Robert Louis Stevenson, it is a classic tale of pirates and adventure, resulting in some of the most famous stereotypical images of pirates known - the peg leg, the parrot, the eye patch, and pieces of eight!
