Get ready, this is the real thing

Date: Fri, 12 Sept 2003

Well! I've just spent a very interesting five weeks in Denver, working and training in preparation for a full year at the South Pole. I've got a great new job too: my official title is "LAN/WAN Specialist" which really makes me a glorified computer tech. More responsibility, more fun. I've met just over half of our projected winter crew and so far there isn't anybody I want to get rid of. Of course since we're using the first part of the new station we'll have more room and more people than previous winter groups: we may hit 75 people, unheard-of. We'll be isolated from mid-February to late October so the community has to be pretty self-reliant. I took emergency medical training along with several others; more winterovers are in fire school right now.

Of course I hope you all think this kind of thing is interesting too, but if you want out you can send email to majordomo@murkworks.net with body text "unsubscribe sksouth-l". I'll try to focus on new and amusing things.

Please write me from time to time! Love the job, love the lifestyle, miss my friends.

Take care,

-Sarah
