Aaaaa! Planes

Date: Thu, 21 Oct 2004

It's mighty cold for Hercs here but they say they're going to fly today. Woo! I'll be happy to get the season started but I could've used another day to finish up station opening tasking, clean up, and move to my temporary room before the new people get here.

New people will be exciting. It's been 8 months with the same 75 people, they're good people but still that's a small community. We had the Twin Otters go through yesterday and weren't they nice! The crews are all Canadian and they remind me of my cousins (Hello, cousins).

If the planes fly today they'll bring in my boss and my replacement, so I'll be on track for getting out of here. Wow. I still enjoy being here but a year is a long time to live in an approx. 1-mi radius. I'm ready to leave.

I've worked hard and I think I've done a good job here but you know how it is, when new people show up they see what you didn't do. I've done my best to get workspaces set up right, and I think the network is in good shape. I guess we'll see. Also it's a known fact that people lose mental acuity and short-term memory when they winter here: I'm a real good example, still cheerful but I forget stuff left and right and I don't always make obvious logical connections. Incoming folks who haven't wintered before may not get it. Oh well, they can get their computer support elsewhere.

Time to clean up. Anything that's not done now gets shoved on a shelf in the storeroom.

Later,

-Sarah
