A few brief notes on yesterday's meeting at the North Precinct Police
Center:
In attendance was another community member: Kent
Wills
Arrangements/transportation were discussed for
the forthcoming Tacoma training session, Subj: Success Procedures in
the implementation of enforcement in dealing with landlords.
Of significance: An agreement was reached in
format: previously it was agreed that all developed forms and procedures
would be only "inhouse". Yesterday it was agreed that the basic form
would be inhouse but the morgeneral brochure would be made available
to the community. Consequently there will be a modification of the
brochure so that the public may be able to use it.
Another significant item: There is ongoing
activity (especially Legal/aka Sidran) to develop law at the local
and state level that will allow for faster enforcement of Codes. On
the "inhouse" memo will now be
attached wording that will deal with Occupancy in these rooming/boarding
structures. I suggested that parking should be of major importance in
dealing with these rentals. Our streets, front lawns, sidewalks are
jammed with automobiles.
I brought attention to the proposed project by
the University
Lutheran church: cessation of their day care program to be substituted
by development of a homeless shelter. The residents on 16th avenue have
long been unhappy with the church's prior homeless activities. The
church apparently allows the homeless to shelter around the building but
do not provide sanitary facilities. In turn the nearby residents suffer
from these people using their yards, alleys, and garages. This was
certainly a DCLU domain item. Michale Crooks, CSO, said she would
personally look into it. I suggested she contact Brian Lange, chair
person of our Land Use Committee. If you have any further details please
contact Brian.
The next meeting will be on April 21 at 1:30 same place. They will
be reviewing the Tacoma training session of the day before. They also
hope to make final decisions on the brochure.
If you have any further suggestions for the NATS group please let me
know.
