City Y2K issues - Seattle City Light presentation
Web sites - list passed out.
Keep 3-7 days of essential supplies, that's
recommended regardless.
City trucks have maintenance monitors that
keep the trucks from starting if maintenance schedule isn't followed!
Seattle City Light still has ALL its manual
equipment! They have tested & can run in "1950s mode." They've also done
a COLD START on Ross Dam successfully & can standalone if necessary - will
try to avoid.
Biggest fear is truck hitting power pole,
knocking out an area & having people panicing. 2nd is a flood of phone
calls killing the phone grid w/volume. The three days @ start of year
will be scariest. Also some fear of lots of noncomplaint burglar
alarms diverting police resources for several days.
We're about at the end of the 24-hr clock,
so can watch stuff coming & adjust as/if needed.
Seahawk impact issues, Paul Klemond
U. Heights Centre mtg. Led to Neighbourhoods
Enduring Seahawk Impacts. Seahawks & 1st & Goal have been co-operative.
But it'll still be much worse than Husky games.
Lots of Metro. Charter boats. Entertainment
at KINGDOME site, to get people there 1st. Restaurant deals that include
parking.
Seahawks will pay for new parking zones
but not enforcement.
City "intends to enforce." Best is call-in
by residents reporting illegal parking.
Growing Residental Parking Zones is easy.
Setting a new one up from scratch is hard. So if you want do try to get
one set up, get moving on it now - it'll take a bit.
Wants Seahawks to pay for traffic
improvements. Traffic circles, sidewalks, etc. Asks NE District Council
to pass resolution supporting as a condition of using Husky Stadium.
All Roosevelt & Portage Bay have approved it already.
Wants package of projects to be "approved"
by NE Dist. Council. Some complaints about language; "approved" sounds
like NEDC is making a power-grab. Suggested that "approved" become
"reviewed" instead. Argument over wording follows, changes made so that
NEDC will "recommend" a projects list instead.
No input from CUCAC yet. Has had opportunity
to review, hasn't done so. They feel this isn't their area.
Resolution approved by voice vote.
Now to schedule workshop. Mon 16 Aug.,
location TBA. People should bring project proposals as described in
handout.
Request for discussion on strategies.
Many small projects, one really big project, what?
Seahawks will be apprised of mtg. No $
have been discussed. On order of $10K projects is suggested.
Seahawks admit unmitigatable negative
impact, but will only pay for direct impacts, BUT are MUCH MORE OPEN
to joint projects where neighbourhoods help pay.
Big complaint about impact zone. Defined
area has to be set up for city to be able to do anything. "Sounds
extortionate" without hard zone impact area.
UPCC feels particularly likely to be hit
hard (50th, 52nd, Ravenna Blvd.), concerns about priority - maybe submit
-before- meeting.
Eastlake is interested, Wallingford &
Capitol hill much less so. Will be invited. Eastlake is having a
meeting on 12th (Roling Centre) @ 7pm about Eastlake impact.
Business, Economic, & Community Impact
Committee is city council committee of jurisdiction. 15 Sept is city
council meeting on this stuff.
Maybe money to North Precinct for more
traffic cops.
